The human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV) National Register for blood donor screening and how to take part in research that helps improve understanding of HTLV. This guidance provides patient-oriented information about the register, including the screening process during blood donation and opportunities for research participation. HTLV is a retrovirus primarily transmitted through blood, sexual contact, and breastfeeding. Most infected individuals remain asymptomatic, but a small proportion may develop adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (ATL) or HTLV-associated myelopathy (HAM/TSP).
