31 August 2005 WHO has received reports of 7 cases and 4 deaths from yellow fever in the region of Fouta Djalon. Four cases including 3 deaths have been reported in Mamou, a town of 236 000 inhabitants which grew around the railway line from Conakry to Kankan. Mamou acts as an important transport hub in the country. These cases have been laboratory confirmed by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Yellow Fever, the Institut Pasteur, Dakar, Senegal. In addition, 3 cases including 1 death have been reported from Dalaba, a city of 136,000 inhabitants, 50 km from Mamou.
