Level 2 - Practice Enhanced Precautions: Travelers to Sri Lanka should take enhanced measures to prevent mosquito bites:
- Use EPA-registered insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or other approved ingredients
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, especially during daytime hours
- Stay in accommodations with window and door screens or air conditioning
- Sleep under a mosquito bed net if rooms are not screened or air-conditioned
- Be aware that symptoms include sudden onset of fever and severe joint pain
