Level 2 - Practice Enhanced Precautions: Travelers to Cuba should take enhanced measures to prevent mosquito bites:
- Use EPA-registered insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, particularly during daytime hours when mosquitoes are most active
- Stay in places with air conditioning or window/door screens
- Sleep under a mosquito bed net if your room is not well-screened or air-conditioned
- Be aware that chikungunya symptoms include sudden fever and severe joint pain
